What Interior Painting Really Involves
Interior painting is mostly preparation. In a typical room, the hours go into the work before the first coat: covering floors and furniture, filling nail holes and dings, caulking the gaps along trim, sanding glossy spots and taping every edge. Miguel Painting paints bedrooms, living rooms, hallways, kitchens, stairwells, ceilings, baseboards and interior doors, always in the same order: ceilings first, then walls, then trim.
Marietta houses ask for different prep. Many homes in the subdivisions around the Square were built in the 1990s and early 2000s with flat builder-white walls and heavy orange-peel texture, which shows every roller mark if the finish coat is rushed. Older houses near the Marietta historic district can have many layers of old paint, hairline cracks along door frames and walls that were never meant to be perfectly flat. Each needs its own patching and priming plan, and we decide it at the walk-through, not halfway through the job.
Georgia humidity matters inside the house too. On a muggy week with the windows open, latex paint takes longer to dry and recoat times stretch, so we plan the schedule around the weather and your air conditioning, not around a fixed number of days.

Signs Your Rooms Are Ready for a Fresh Coat
If any of these sound like your house, an interior repaint will make the biggest visible difference.
- Scuff marks and fingerprints that no longer wipe off, especially around switches, doorways and the stair wall
- Ceiling stains from an old roof or plumbing leak that has since been fixed and now need to be sealed and repainted
- Paint peeling or bubbling in bathrooms and laundry rooms where steam never had anywhere to go
- A color you have lived with for ten years or more, or one you want neutral before listing the house
- Nail pops, hairline cracks and dents left behind by furniture and old picture hangers
- Roller lap marks and uneven sheen from a previous DIY coat
- A greasy, yellowed film on kitchen walls near the stove
- A newly bought home you want finished before the furniture arrives
How We Paint Your Interior, Step by Step
- Walk-through and written scope
Miguel walks the rooms with you, checks wall and ceiling condition, and talks through colors, sheen and which rooms get what. The quote spells out what is included, including who supplies the paint, so the scope is clear before anything is booked.
- Protect and patch
Floors, furniture and fixtures get covered. Nail holes, dings and cracks are filled and sanded, gaps at trim are caulked, and glossy surfaces are scuff-sanded so new paint can grip.
- Prime where it counts
Stains, bare patches and dark colors get primer so they do not show through or flash under the finish coat. Patched spots are spot-primed so they do not soak up paint differently from the wall around them.
- Cut in and roll
Edges and corners are cut in by brush, then walls are rolled in even coats. Ceilings use flat paint, walls usually an eggshell or satin, and trim and doors a semi-gloss that wipes clean. Most rooms need two finish coats.
- Touch-up and cleanup
We peel the tape, check the lines in good light, touch up anything you spot, put furniture back where it was and leave the rooms clean.
What Affects the Cost of Interior Painting
Every house is different, so we quote after seeing the rooms. These are the factors that move the price.
Room size and ceiling height
Square footage of wall and ceiling drives most of the labor, and tall stairwells or vaulted ceilings add ladder and scaffold time.
Condition of the surfaces
Smooth, sound walls go quickly. Walls with many patches, cracks, old texture or stains need more repair hours before painting starts.
Trim, doors and number of colors
Baseboards, crown, window casings and doors are slow, careful work. Accent walls and multiple colors add taping and cut-in time.
Paint choice and who buys it
Better paint hides more in fewer coats. The quote states who supplies the paint and materials so you can compare quotes on equal terms.
Occupied or empty rooms
A fully furnished house takes longer to protect and move around than an empty one, and that time shows up in the quote.
Why Marietta Homeowners Choose Miguel Painting for Interiors
Around 25 years of painting
Miguel has been painting for roughly 25 years, mostly through referrals from past customers. That experience shows up in straight lines and in knowing what a surface will do under paint.

A quote that states the scope
Many disputes in painting come from unclear scope. We put what is included, including who supplies materials, in writing at the quote.
Prep is part of the price
Patching, caulking, sanding and priming are done as standard steps because paint only looks as good as the surface under it.

Interior Painting FAQs
How many coats of paint does an interior room need?
Most rooms get primer where needed plus two finish coats. Going from a dark color to a light one, or covering stains and fresh patches, can take an extra coat or a dedicated primer.
Do I have to move my furniture before you paint?
You do not have to. We move furniture to the center of the room and cover it, but it helps to clear small items, wall hangings and anything fragile. Tell us which rooms are fully furnished when you request your quote.
Which paint sheen should I use in each room?
Flat or matte on ceilings, eggshell or satin on most walls, and semi-gloss on trim and doors because it wipes clean. Kitchens and bathrooms usually do best with satin for moisture and cleaning.
Can you paint over a dark wall or wallpaper?
Dark colors can be covered with the right primer and an extra coat. Wallpaper is different: it should come off and the wall be smoothed first, so mention it when you request your quote and we will look at it.
How long does it take to paint the inside of a house?
A single room can take one to two days including prep and two coats. A whole-house interior takes longer depending on the number of rooms, how much patching is needed and drying time in humid weather. You get a schedule at the quote.
